NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, Alay G. The Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club’s ANNUAL BALL,. held in the Theatre Royal last Thursday evening, was a great success. It was a perfect night for dancing—fine, yet cold. The hall itself never looked prettier in its decoration. All around the dress circle were tennis nets, balls, and racquets, held in place by large knots of dark aud pale blue, the club’s colours, while the pillars were fedooned with lycopodium and flowers. The whole effect was charming. The stage was cosily arranged as a drawing-room, and decorated with equally good taste. The supper was all that could be desired. Excellent music was supplied by AleKinnon Bane’s orchestra. During the evening Dr. Leathain (president of the club) thanked the committee, more especially the ladies, for the way in which everything was so successfully carried out. He then presented the prizes won during the season. Aiiss Stephenson secured the trophy presented by Air. Taylor, of Alessrs. Hayman and Co., for the ladies’ handicap singles; Air. J. C. Nicholson received the prize for the 'men’s - handicap singles; and Air. ' and Mrs. Afannering won the combined handicap prize. The members of the “Last Lap” gave a prize for the progressive tournament, Afrs- Mannering receiving the ladies’ prize and Air. Tuke the gentlemen’s. Among the ladies present I noticed: Airs.
