May 6. Dear Bee, —The ladies of the Napier Golf Club opened their season last Saturday with ladies' foursomes. The prizes were balls presented by Miss Ormond. Afternoon tea was given by Afrs 11. J. Smith, the captain of the Club. The match was won by the Misses Hindmarsh ami Burke, with 80——13: 7ti; Alisscs Todd aud Fannin, with 90—13: 77 came in second. Amongst these present were: Afesdames Fharazyn. Moore, Cato, Stedman, Ronald, Wenley, Aliases Kennedy (2), Balfour, Lcekitig, Davis, Chapman, Dinwiddie, Rutherford, etc.
Another course of winter evening lectures is being arranged by the committee of tile Athenaeum. The first address will be given by Sir Robert Stout on Alay 28th. Other lectures will be delivered by Messrs J. C. Wcstali, 11. Gregson, J. W. Cargill, W. Dinwiddie, G. T. Naylor, P. S. AfcLean, A. L. D. Fraser, AI.H.K., Kaber-Ilariison, the Rev. J. A. Asher, the Rev. Father Goggan, ami Dr. Aloore. Judging from those of previous years, these winter evening entertainments should be a great suceessi A two days’ bazaar was held at Port Ahtiriri on behalf of the funds of St. Andrew's Church last week. On Wednesday the Bishop of Waiapu opened the proceedings. The stalls were very prettily ai ranged with articles of needlework, painted plaques, dolls in every variety, framed water colour drawings, and numerous useful and ornamental objects. There was a produce stall, which did good business; a plain and fancy goods stall, pesided over by Afesdames Saunders and Ale Comb, besides others looked after by Airs Aliehelle and many other parishioners: a refreshment stall, presided over by the Aiisses Brown and Reynolds, proved very successful : and so was a “cooling drinks” stall. There were concerts and entertainments each day, and the bazaar proved to be the most successful one for manv years past. MARJORIE.
