Dear Bee, March 18. On Friday afternoon Mrs Sarjeant gave an “At Home.” for Mrs Eyre-Kenny, who leaves Wanganui shortly for Nelson. The croquet lawn was in splendid order, and most enjoyable games were played by the many guests. Mrs Sarjeant received in a smart gown of black and white spotted silk with a border of silk having a much larger spot, the same material forming a large vandyked collar, blaek and white hat with white wings. Amongst the guests were Mesdames Eyre-Kenny, Fitzherbert, Krull, Moore, A. Sheriff, Lewis, Kissling, Mason, Innes, Montgomerie, Atkinson, Cowper. (Dannevirke),Babbage, Blundell, Dodgshun, Misses Moore, Atkinson (England), Richmond (Nelson), Shaw (Gisborne), Mason. McDonnell (2), Gifford, Maling, Aiken, Mr and the .Misses Stewart (2), Mrs Bond, and others.

On Saturday afternoon Miss Gilfillan gave an afternoon tea at the residence of her nephew (Mr T. Allison) in Glas-gow-street. Amongst those present were Mr T. Allison, Miss Gilfillan, Mesdames Nicholas (Tasmania), Hope, Gibbons, Hawke, H. Sarjeant, Grieg, Miss McDonald (South Africa), Mesdames Crosse (England), John Stevenson, Izett, Miller, Cutfield, Atkins, Brookfield, and others. On Tuesday evening, the 15th inst., Mrs E. Heywood invited a few' friends to say good-bye to Miss Heywood, of Auckland, who is spending a few days in Wanganui prior to her departure for England. A most enjoyable time was spent, Miss Heywood charming her

hearers _ with her exquisite pianoforte playing.' ’

Perfect weather was experienced in Wanganui for St. Patrick's Day, which was observed as a partial holiday. The Roman Catholic schools held their annual picnic on -Victoria Park, and, assisted by their friends, gave a ■ most successful concert in the Opera Hotue in the evening.

On the 17th inst. the Wanganui Tennis Club went by train to Palmerston North to meet the Mas ter ton players, whom they defeated in the Shield Tourney. Wanganui will now have to meet the winner of the Wellington centre at Palmerston. The players for our club were Misses Cave and Aitken, Messrs Dyer, McCaul, Thompson and Bell, and they speak in high terms of the hospitality shown them by the Palmerston

Club.
