Dear Bee, February 10. Quite the nicest thing in the way of a MUSICAL EVENING in Christchurch for a very long time was given by Mrs. Elworthy, “Inglewood,” Papanui road, on Friday, when she was “At Home" to a large number of friends to introduce Miss Lloyd Hasacll, of Timaru, who has just returned from England, after completing her musical education. Miss Hassell's singing gave intense pleasure. A dainty and delicious supper was served in an interval, and a most enjoyable time spent by all. Airs. Elworthy received in a handsome gown of black satin, faintly trimmed with silver cord and lovely white lace fichu; Miss Elworthy, eau de Nil silk, embroidered in cream, chiffon sleeves; Miss M. Elworthy, pale green crepe de chine, with handsome cream insertion; Mrs. W. Bond, pale blue silk under lace, the bodice finished with cream and pink roses, full chiffon sleeves; Mrs. J. Bond, rich black brocade, long white accordion chiffon sleeves, transparent yoke; Airs.

Bond, black satin gown, the liodice trimmed with white; Mrs. Wigram, black chiffon over silk, thin net angel sleeves; Mrs. G. G. Stead, black satin, relieved with white and pale blue choux on bodice, beautiful diamond ornaments and tiara; Mrs. A. E. G. Rhodes, white satin, with overskirt of net, embroidered in sequins; Mrs. Alister Clark, white satin, with sequin net overskirt, with pearl and sapphire ornaments; Mrs. J. Loughnan, black satin, trimmed with white chiffon, full sleeves of the chiffon; Miss, Loughnan, white silk; Miss Wilding, pale blue satin; Mrs. R. Macdonald, black silk, trimmed with white laeo; Miss Cook, white satin, veiled with black net; Miss L. Cook, pink satin; Mrs. G. Gould, cream and gold brocade, gold belt, pearl ornaments; Mrs. 11. M. Reeves, pale blue satin, finished with cream lace; Mrs. .1. M. Turnbull, black chiffon, with white pin spot, the frills on the skirt edged with white ribbon; Mrs. IT. Cotterill, black satin, and while lace berthe; Mrs. I’. Smith, white silk; Mrs Vernon, black satin and jet; Mrs. Haswell, grey voile; Mrs. Deans, black silk; Miss Deans, white silk and chiffon, with bright red berries on the bodice; Mrs. Burns, white brocade, and angel sleeves of chiffon, scarlet flowers on bodice; Mrs. If. I’. Woodroffe cream satin and lace, strapped with green velvet ribbon; Mrs. Crooke, cream figured silk, trimmed with black; Miss Graham, all black; Mrs. Archer, Mr. and Mrs. T. Cowlishaw. Dr. and Miss Moorhouse, Dr. and Mrs. Palmer, Mr. and Mi’s. 11. P. Hill, the Misses Hill (2), Helmore, Hassell. Cox. Lee, Cleveland, Moore, Professor and Mrs. Cook, Mr. and Mrs. J. Anderson, Professor and Mrs. Blunt, Mrs. W. Fox, Mrs. Inman, Messrs. J. Bond. A. E. G. Rhodes, Gould (2), Stead, Lane, Turnbull, P. Campbell, Wallick,

etc. Among others who contributed (o the enjoyment of the evening were Mrs. Burns, Mis. P. Smith, the Misses Cook (2), Mr. H. M. Reeves, Dr. Crooke, an.l Mr. H. H. Loughnan.

AT POLO On Saturday a very pleasant afternoon was spent, the weather being lovely. Mrs Heaton Rhodes dispensed delicious afternoon tea. A large number of people were present, including Sir Donald and Lady Robertson, Captain Heaton Rhodes, Mr and Mrs A. E. G- Rhodes, Mr and Mrs Alister Clark (Melbourne), Mr and Mrs J. Gould. Mr and Mrs J. D. Hall, Mr and Mrs J. H. Beswick, Mr and Mrs T. Cowlishaw, Mrs and Miss Boyle, Mrs and Miss Wilder, Mrs Wardorp, Mr- and Mrs Lance, Mr and Mrs G. Gould and many others. Mrs W. Reeee gave A MOST ENJOYABLE PICNIC for her young friends last week at ■•Wainoni,” when among those present were the Misses Reeee. Baine, Elmslie, Anderson. March and Prins, the Messrs Reece, Anderson. Thomas. MortonAnderson and Hill A DELIGHTFUL LUNCHEON was given by Mrs T. spot Among the guests were the Misses Lee. Reeves, Hill. Elworthy, Fitzgerald, Cleveland and Kettle. The Misses Devenish Moares, “Tootoowa,” Papanui-road, gave A PLEASANT EVENING to their girl friends before their sister left for the North Island. A small farce was acted by the Misses Denniston and Devenish-Meares, followed by a dainty little supper and dancing. Among those present were Airs H. 0. D. Aiea res, Mrs Denniston, the Misses Denniston. Turner, Molineaux. Thomas, and several more., Mrs Wardrop gave A BRIDGE PARTY on Thursday at the Bank House, Hereford street, which was greatly enjoyed by all present, amongst whom were Mrs and Miss Lee. Mrs Wigram, Mrs and Miss Kettle. Airs Woodroffe. Mrs T. Cowlishaw, Airs J. M. Turnbull, Mrs Beswiek, Mrs J. Gould. Mrs G. Gould, Mrs W- Fox, and Miss Cleveland.

The garden party for the Children’s Aid Society fixed for the 18th is to he held at Strowan, in Air G. G. Stead’s beautiful grounds, kindly lent for the oeasion. and given fine weather will or should be well patronised.
