THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM.
MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY* August 15. - The football match between New Zealand and Australia, which has been looked forward to with considerable interest for the past fortnight, was played here today in glorious weather,. there being only a light breeze, but not sufficiently strong to give advantage to cither side. During the previous night showers fell, but the morning broke fine, and the ground was in good order. The attendance was estimated at quite thirty thousand, and included Lord Tennyson (the Governor-General) and Bir Harry Rawson (Governor of New South Wales). The teams lined out as under:— ' New Zealand: Full-back, Wallace; three-quarters, Asher, R. McGregor, J). McGregor; five-eighths, Duncan (captain) and Wood; half, Kiernan; forwards, Gallaher, Tyler, Udy, Cooke, Fan-
ning, Long, Nicholson, McMinn. Australia: Full-bock, Mauud: threequarters, White, 'WickJutm (eaptain), Riley and Redwood: halves, Evans and Gratton; forwards. Burden, jparkin, Nicholson, Luige, Joy«c ( Hanieastle, Boland. The New Zealand skipper (Dunean) won the toss, and elected to play with the sun at the back of liie tram. Wickham led the Australians, and. Dr. -Waugh was entrusted with the whistle. Intense interest was displayed in this match, as it was the first in which New Zealand had been engaged against combined Australia. The 1884, 1803, and 1897 teams had had successful tours, the first going through without defeat, and after the success wliieh had attended the present team in their tour they went out favourites for to-day's match. New Zealand won by 22 points >to 3.
