NAPIER.
Dear Bee, November 28. A large assemblage was gathered together on Friday evening in the Trinity Wesleyan Schoolroom, at the banquet by which the Scinde Literary Association's session was closed. The Rev. C. E. Beecroft, president of the association, occupied the chair, among those who were present being the Rev. J. A. Asher, Captain Hawkins, Lieutenant Brebner, Messrs. Anderson, P. Fulton, C. E. Walker, Spriggs, Tonkin, Wilson, Goldsmith, Bnckeridge and a host of others. Messrs. Avison, Buckeridge, E. White and Goldsmith performed during the evening. The Cathedral choir gave one of their best recitals ; last Wednesday evening in St. John’s Cathedral. Although the weather was very unpropitious there was. a fair attendance, and the singing was beyond praise. Amongst the solos were ‘‘Praise the Lord,” by Miss King, and ‘‘Honour and Arms” (from “Samson”) by Mr. A. Blackman. Mr. Sharp rendered with rare charm on the organ Vincent’s “Meditation,” Handel's "Waft Her. Angels,” and “See the Conquering Hero Comes,” from “Judas Maccabaeus.” Altogether the recital was deservedly pronounced to be an unqualified success. MARJORIE.
