Dear Bee, Alareh 5. On Friday last Mrs Heather, of Box ley, Mt. Eden, gave a pleasant little dance in connection with the departure of her son, Air Vincent Heather, who has received a commission in the Imperial Army, and left Auckland on Alonday. MUSICAL AT HOME AT THE Y.M.C.A. Air Charles Bethune issued a large number of invitations to the Auckland ladies to meet Aliss Alice Hollander at the Y.M.C.A. Hall on Friday afternoon last. There was a very large attendance. Aliss Alice Hollander, a young Australian contralto, is shortly to give a series of concerts in the Opera House. She has a rich, full, contralto voice of exceptional range. Miss Hollander, who was dressed simply in a white muslin frock, sang “Lascia Ch’ lopianga” (Handel), “The Shepherds” (Somerville), and “Still .as the Night” (Baume), the last named in response to an encore. Miss Ben Susan, who wore a dark skirt, maize coloured silk blouse and toque of marigold tulle and flowers resembling a large marigold, gave two recitations. Mr Sharp contributed two humorous songs, ami Miss Boult a couple of violin solos. The accompaniments were played by Mr A. Towsey and Air Boult. ■ ■

The annual ladies’ picnic given by the EDEN AND EPSOM TENNIS members took place last Thursday, beginning at half-past ten, and proved a most successful function. Over 60 visiting ladies from other tennis clubs were present. The players were divided into two classes, the winners of the upper division being Misses Nicholson and Marks, and in the lower Misses AL Gorrie and Choyce. Each winning lady received a pair of gloves, kindly given by Messrs. E. Brown, l’dy, Horace Walker, and Turner, while the runners-up were consoled with boxes of chocolates, the gift of Airs Chapman. Luncheon and afternoon tea was served in the Eden and Epsom's pretty pavilion, which was gaily decorated with flowers.

was practised in Hunter and Nolan’s paddock,Ellerslie,last Saturday. There was a very poor attendance present, and the ladies, who had kindly promised to preside over the afternoon tea never appeared. There was a marquee erected, but there was neither seats nor table to lay the cups and saucers: of the latter there was a bountiful supply. The Auckland ladies were sorry to see that their polo players got badly beaten by the Cam-

The annual picnic of the Atom Club took place Just Saturday. A most enjoyable day was spent by the girls anil their friends at Nihotapu. leaving town in Pitllan & Armitage's "Jubilee" brake at 8.50 a.m., they reached that most beautiful of all picnic resorts at 12.15. Ou arrival, luncheon, being the first thought after so long a drive, a lovely spot was soon chosen, and a. large table-cloth spread on the banks of the creek. A most effective table-centre was formed by three baskets of fruit, the majority of which, including some large bunches of fine purple and white grapes, being the kind contribution of Airs. Mason, of Garden Hyrst, Uemuera. Alaster ('. Mason, son of the latter, and a St. John's College boy. accompanied the party, bringing his bugle, which gave a very lively effect to the entertainment, and enabled the picnickers to give a right royal salute to "every homestead, and every man, dog and cow they passed on the road. A visit was made to the falls in the afternoon, returning to the camping ground in time for tea. At 5 p.m. the "fall-in" was sounded from the bugle, and the return journey was commenced. Town was reached at 7.30, and the party dispersed after spending a very happy day. Amongst the visitors who accompanied the Club were: Alesdames Tilly. Mason, Macindoe. Booth, Misses English. Atorriu (2), Price, Rylance (2). Taylor. Jenkinson, Reid. Cottle, Messrs. Leonard and Mason, etc. At “Dinholm," Alount. Eden Road. Airs. J. W. Hinton held an “at home” dri the afternoon of Tuesday. February 26th. when over a hundred friends enjoyed the good things provided. The exquisite trousseau and handsome presents of the bride-elect, Aliss J. Hinton, were much admired. PHYLLIS BROUN.
