CYCLING.
In England the county of Norfolk appears to be a perilous place for cyclists. The Watton magistrates have fined a youth named Bertie Precious, a cycle manufacturer's assistant, £5, with the alternative of a month’s imprisonment, for an extraordinary outrage bn a highway near that town, it seemed that he procured a revolver and cartridges, and,’ waiting on the roadside, fired at three separate lots of cyclists who passeel -him. One of the riders was struck in the back, but fortunately escaped serious injury. Another, named James-Bowen, living in a neighbouring village, was not so lucky. The charge entered his thigh and knocked him off'hrs machine. The bullet'had not, when the mail left, been extracted from -the injured limb. Another extraordinary affair is reported from Norwich. Five cyclists were riding in a cluster down Unthanks Road. and when in the narrow part of that thoroughfare a gentleman of the city who has filled a high civic position exhibited his resentment by deliberately thrusting his walking-stick at one of the machines, with the intention of stopping its progress. Not successful in this attempt, he made a second onslaught on another of the cyclists, with the result that the rider was unseated and the machine much damaged.
