News arrived in Picton last week of the death of Airs Tosswill, mother of Mrs Masefield, of Alanaroa, Pelorus Sound. Mr and Airs Tosswill came from Akaroa a few years ago to reside near their daughter. Mrs Tosswill then was in delicate health, so that her demise was not unexpected. The family have many friends and relations in the colony who have the sympathy of others for their loss. Picton people were shocked on Alonday morning to hear of the sudden death of Miss Alinnie Clemmens, daughter of Mr and Airs Clemmens, of Shakspere Bay. Aliss Clemmens had lived for some years ■with Airs Oxley at the Pier Hotel, and was well known and much respected. She appeared to be in her usual health on Saturday morning, but took ill suddenly and died of peritonitis on Alonday morning.
