DUNEDIN.

Dear Bek, July 13. On Monday evening the LADIES’ SAVAGE CLUB was held at Mrs C. Graham's residence in Heriot Row. There was a great number of people present, it being the visitors’ evening. Mrs Napier Bell was chairwoman for the night, and she had arranged a most sp'en-lid programme. There were three programmes, which had been painted by Mrs Joachim, Miss Hodgkins, and Miss E. Napier Bell. The programme opened with a reading by Miss Browning. Mrs Monkman then contribnted a song, which was most heartily encored. A minuet (de la coeurj was danced by Miss Lily MacLaren and Miss Edith Shand. They wore full minuet costumes, and coloured lights shone on them the whole time, which added greatly to the picture-queness of the scene. Miss Eleanor Miller then recited, and this concluded the first half of the programme. Tea, coffee, and most delicious cakes were served in the dining-room, and the table was prettily decorated with chrysanthemums and ferns. The first item on the second half was a Scotch character sketch by Miss Cargill and the Misses Webster. This item was quite the funniest during the evening. Their opening part-song, entitled, ‘ A Loyal Song of the Queen,’ was composed by the conductor, Mr Jesse Timson, and was much appreciated. Miss Mongrieden. the lady soloist for the evening, was encored every time she sang, as was Signor Squarise, who rendered several excellent violin solos. Taking the concert as a whole, it did not nearly come up to its usual standard.
