Dear Bee, July 6. On Monday evening, the sth inst., THE LADIES’ SAVAGE CLUB was held at Mrs Macassey’s residence in Heriot Row. Miss Gwen Roberts and Miss Stewart Bartieman were the chairwomen for the evening. The programme was a very pretty one, and was painted by Miss E. Ulrich. The (opening item was a very good piano solo by Miss Vida Reynolds. The next item was a reading by Miss Ford, which was both interesting and amusing. Mrs Dowling then sang, ‘ He Loves me no More ’ very sweetly indeed. We then all adjourned to the dining-room for tea, coffee, and cakes ; the latter were most delicious.

The second part of the programme began with a skirt dance, danced by Miss Lily MacLaren. Mrs Monkman then sang in her usual charming manner, and the programme was brought to a close with a reading by Mrs Sale. There were between forty and fifty people present. Mrs Macassey received in the drawing-room, and wore a becoming gown of spotted black silk, white chiffon ruffle ; Miss Macassey, pretty white satin blouse covered with white chiffon, black satin skirt; Mrs C. Turnbull, gray shot silk blouse, black silk skirt; Mrs Jackson, black velvet gown ; Mrs Finker. black merveilleux ; Mrs Dowlling, stylish gown of black and white silk ; Mrs Ritchie, handsome yellow silk, black satin skirt; Mrs Scott, black silk ; Miss Webster, pale blue flowered silk, black crepon skirt ; Miss S. Webster, pale pink muslin blouse,, cream lace fichu ; Miss Hodgkins, peacock blue flowered silk blouse; Miss A. Cargill, bright red silk blouse, black skirt; Miss C. Bartieman, white hailstone muslin trimmed with white lace ; Miss Handyside, pale pink blouse ; Miss M. Sise, fawn brocaded silk blouse trimmed with green velvet, black skirt; Miss Ramsay, pale pink blouse trimmed with cream lace ; Miss Mac Lean, heliotrope silk blouse, black satin skirt; Miss Gilkison, pink silk bodice, black velvet sleeves and skirt; Miss Ford, heliotrope crepon blouse; Miss L. MacLaren, white muslin ; Miss P. Graham, peacock blue brocade. A LARGE DANCE was given in the Garrison Hall on Thursday evening as a wind-up to the Kindergarten festivities. The ball was given by the committee, and was a very great success. The hall was decorated with bunting, lanterns, etc. A most delicious supper was set out at the end of the hall, which was curtained off by flags. The table was decorated with vases of yellow chrysanthemums. Robertshaw’s Band supplied the music, which was splendid. Extras were played by Misses Macassey and Burt, Messrs J. Haggitt and MacPherson. Dancing was kept going till two o’clock in the morning. The chaperones were Mrs Reynolds, who wore a very handsome sage green brocade trimmed with terracotta satin ; Mrs Ulrich, very handsome black brocade ruffle of white chiffon ; Mesdames Galloway, Black, Bottamly ; Mrs L. Reynolds, black, white opera cloak ; Mrs Hart, yellow brocade; Mrs Gray, dead white silk covered with white chiffon and trimmed with pearl passementerie; Mrs Raphael, black brocade; Mrs Martin, black trimmed with red satin ; Miss Roberts, yellow silk trimmed with Valenciennes lace ; Miss Williams, black trimmed with coffee lace; Miss D. Williams, white crepon trimmed with white silk ribbon ; Miss Macassey, white trimmed with pink; Miss L. MacKerras, pale green striped satin trimmed with white lace; Miss L. Turton, pale blue silk blouse, black skirt; Miss O. Turton, pink flowered silk ; Miss G. Turton (Indian costume); Miss Griffith (Sydney), buttercup silk trimmed with buttercups; Miss Mac Lean, white brocade, the bodice lavishly trimmed with lace and passementerie. All the performers went in their costumes, which produced a very gay appearance in the ballroom. On Friday evening the Otago UNIVERSITY GRADUATING CEREMONY took place at Otago University. As usual, the crowd was immense, every part of the building that was thrown open being packed to excess. The proceedings of the evening commenced with an address by the Vice-chancellor, Mr E. B. Cargill, then the presentation of the graduates, followed by reply speech from Miss Ethel Beniamin, LL.B.
