BLENHEIM.
Dear Bee, July 6. Mrs Farmar had a large and very enjoyable AFTERNOON TEA last Friday, and both drawing and dining-rooms were crowded with guests, among whom were Mesdames Bull, Orr, Hubbard, Thompson, Croker, Jackson, Carey, A. Farmar, Misses Bull, Ethel Carey, Lillian Horne, Horton, Annie Horton, Fulton, M. Fulton, Mills, B. Mills, Pearce, Sinsted (Westport), Pasley (Gisborne), Garrard, L. Noswosthy, B. Smith, and the Misses Mary, Bertha, and Clara Farmar. Some very enjoyable songs, and piano selections were given by Miss Sinsted, Miss Horne, Miss Mills, Miss M. Farmar, and Mrs Arthur Farmer, whilst two recitations by Miss Pearce were not only exceptionally good, buthadall the charm of variety and novelty. One was * The Prologue ’ by Oliver Wendell Holmes ; the second, a shorter piece, was entitled ‘ Aunt Tabitha.’ Last Wednesdey evening Miss Horton’s WEEKLY DANCE was extended to a later hour than usual, and refreshments were provided by the ladies, who at this period of balancing at the various business institutions in town, the officers of which were unable to be present, considerably outnumbered the gentlemen. Among the ladies were Miss Myra Leslie (Motueka), in dark skirt, pretty pink evening blouse ; Miss Lilian Horne wore a bright and becoming red dress ; Miss Pearce, dark skirt, stylish Trilby silk blouse ; Miss Harley (Nelson), pink dress, sleeves and decolletage of olive green velvet ; Miss M. Farmar, pink veiling, profusely trimmed with pink chiffon ; Miss Bertha Farmar, pink Liberty silk dress with palest green ribbons ; Miss Powell, dark skirt, Nil green blouse ; Miss Smith, dark skirt, pink shirred blouse ; Miss Sinsted, pale green dress and ribbons; Miss Pasley was in black velvet with deep berthe of handsome white lace ; Mrs Powell wore a grey dress with white front veiled with black sequined lace ; Mrs Thompson, pale green skirt, the bodice of pale green silk ; chiffon of a paler shade formed the trimming ; and Misses Mills (two). Green, Cecil Johnston. Fiven, C. Farmar, Mullen (two), F. Nosworthy, E. Carey, Garrard, Sinclair (two), May Nicholson, Horton (three), McArtney (two), Purser (two), etc., and Messrs H. Robinson, A. and C. MacSbane, H. Stowe, H. and G. Horton, Dunn, Jefferies, Mullen, Pulliene, Ecktord, B. Green, Claude Mills, H. Smith, C. Simson, etc , etc. I understand that though a Club has not yet been formed, about a dozen persons meet and practise Golf somewhere in the vicinity of Grove Road in a paddock leased by Mr H. Jackson. Two of the number are ladies.
