SAND DUNES.

Drear and cold from the sea Are the winds blown in the night ; Yet, o’er the dunes is a little light Glimmered to me ; One small star ; the first to wake In the skies that are arched above ; And near me, hearing the billows break On the shore, is one little love — And the night is dear for her sake — One little love ! Low on the lee of the dune, Close, where the wind blows less cold ; Underan open sky, gemmed with star gold; But no moon; All life far ; and only we Watching the stars that awake above ; Near me, hearing the moan of the sea As it breaks, is one little love ; Near her, is Paradise to me — One little love ! Christchurch.
