At the ‘at home’ at wychwood Miss Haggitt wore a grey dress trimmed with dark velvet; Miss Parker (Tasmania), a dark costume, with vest and trimming of shot silk; Miss Spence wore a light fawn tweed, the skirt and bodice trimmed with bands of dark brown velvet, brown hat; Miss F. Spence, dress of electric blue cloth with black hat; Miss Gibson, a fawn-coloured coat worn over a black skirt; her sister, a dress of terra-cotta cloth trimmed with passementerie trimming, hat of the same colour; Miss Lily McLaren, dark brown tweed flecked with yellow, brown hat; Miss Dymock. black skirt and jacket opening over a vest of pink, black hat with pink flowers; Miss Scott. black with light vest worn with a black zouave: Miss K. A most enjoyable FANCY DRESS BALL was given in Girton Hall on Thursday evening, and the young ladies who arranged and carried out the night’s entertainment are to be complimented on the success which attended their efforts. The costumes were both elegant and neat, especially those worn by the ladies. The dresses were seen to good advantage against the pretty Maori-like appearance of the hall, which was tastefully fitted up with screens, reed curtains, and rustic seats. The danceroom was beautifully illuminated with coloured lights, which served to add considerably to the pretty effect of the various costumes.
