WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, October 27. There is very LITTLE GOING ON SOCIALLY this week. On Demonstration Day there were a few’ small picnics, and Miss Menzies gave a large tennis party. There was also a small party of tennisers at Mrs Walter Johnston’s, and the day before Mrs Charles Johnston and Mrs W. R. E. Brow’n both gave small tennis parties, and all of these were on grass courts, for the weather has been so lovely that we have been able to begin a little earlier than usnal. The Thorndon Tennis Courts open on Saturday next, and also the Thorndon Bowling Green, and in the evening the fourth Chamber Concert takes place. OUR PEOPLE. Mrs Gordon, of Hawke’s Bay, was passing through Wellington last week, and was staying with Mrs Izard. Miss Izard has returned from the country. Miss Miller is still staying with Mrs Menzies, but is soon to return to the South. Miss St. Hill stayed a short time in Wellington on her way through. Mrs Godfrey Knight, of Svdney, is paying a visit to Wellington, and is staying with Lady Prendergast. Unfortunately, her son has been very ill. and it is not until quite lately that she has derived any pleasure from her visit, as she was engaged in nursing him through a very anxious illness. Miss Lysaght, of Patea. stayed a few days with Mrs Richmond on her way through Wellington. Miss Ada Wardrop, who is staying with Mr and Mrs T. Y. Wardrop, has begun her series of cookery lectures here, and has, so far. met with great success. Her opening lecture was largely attended. At it she cooked a complete dinner in about an hour, and was watched with much interest by those present. It took place in Thomas’ Hall, where Miss Wardrop had a gas stove and all conveniences put up for her. Mr W. T. L. Travers presided, and Mrs Wardrop and Miss Tuckey were both assisting the lecturess throughout. Ophelia.
