Dear Bee, October 31. We have not been quite so dissipated this week, and have had a little breathing space. I think one of the best dances of the week was at PUHI NUI, PAI'ATOITOI, when Mrs McLaughlin’s postponed ball came off. Our hostess wore a very handsome watered silk covered with black net. and bands of silver passementerie trimming; Miss McLaughlin, lavender silk relieved with white lace; Miss Thomas, bouton d or silk with brown velvet trimmings ; Mrs Holgate looked extremely pretty in black net relieved with white silk and flowers ; Miss Sage, pale heliotrope cashmere : Mrs W. The young ladies who took part in the skirt dance were Miss Annie Scott, silver girdle, heliotrope silk zouave trimmed with silver lace and embroidery, silver shoes ; Miss Armstrong, heliotrope velvet zouave, embroidered, light heliotrope silk sash ; Miss Dunningham, dark green plush zouave, embroidered, pale green silk sash: Miss Syms, pink velvet zouave, silvered, green sash • Miss Dickey, black velvet zouave, light green sash; Miss Carr, old gold plush embroidered zouave, same coloured sash: Miss Halsted. dark crimson velvet zouave, crimson sash ; Misses Campbell (two), old gold velvet zouaves, sashes to match ; Miss Montgomery, green silk zouave, embroidered green silk sash; Miss Harvey, pink silk, embroidered zouave and silk sash to match ; Miss Jane, black velvetzouave, pink silk sash. Among the evening dresses the most effective were worn by Msss M. Harvey, dainty cream cashmere trimmed with lace: Miss Scott, graceful black velvet, pink silk puffs, pink girdle; Mrs Squirrel, handsome black silk trimmed with rich lace and white marguerites: Miss Richardson, handsome black lace, gold ornaments • Miss Reid, charming red costume; Miss Shailer. handsome Indian silk beautifully embroidered: Miss Andrews, pretty cream. Among the fancy dresses, Mrs (Dr.) Walker made a stately ‘Lady Teazle,’ in an exceedingly handsome gown of silk; Miss Cannon, a pretty Spanish costume: Miss S. Dickey, ‘My Sweetheart’; Miss Bayley, a pretty cream fancy costume. The most striking fancy costumes among the gentlemen were worn by Mr H. G. Webber, Polish Skater (heliotrope velvet trimmed with grey fur—a charming combination); Mr D. Reid, Jack Tar; Mr Carl Montgomery. ‘ Paul of Virginia ’; Mr Thompson. Page ; Mr E. L. Russel. Italian Boatman (very prettv). The majority were in evening dress. The children and young ladies who danced in the Cachuca and Fedora skirt dance were Misses A. Scott, De Renzy, Niccol. ONEHUNGA MUSICAL SOCIETY will give their fifth concert, being the last of the season, on Thursday evening, when the ‘ Lay of the Bell.’ by Romberg, will be performed. After the interval several of the members will render a miscellaneous programme. The Manukau Harbour looked quite gay on Saturday afternoon with the ‘white wings ’ of the numerous yachts which are intending to take part in the forthcoming regatta. Workmen are busy laying the water pipes which have recently arrived from Home, in several of the streets in Onehunga which have not been already connected with the service. It is to be hoped that the Tramway company will see their way to grant the petition which has been presented to them asking for an extension of the service between Epsom and Onehunga.
