BELMONT GLEN, WELLINGTON.
(SEE ILLUSTRATION.) THIS being ‘mail number’ for Wellington and the South, special care has been taken to make the issue one of special interest for sending to friends across the sea. On the following page, for instance, will be found a beautiful view of Belmont Glen, an exceedingly pretty and sequestered spot situated on the Belmont Stream about ten miles from the Empire City, and some two miles beyond the Lower Hutt railway station. In summer it is a favourite resort for picnickers and excursionists. In the vicinity there is a pretty waterfall. It is on the same stream, and about thirty-five feet in height. Round about the fall grow ferns in the greatest profusion, and these, with the spray thrown up by the water and sparkling like diamonds in the sunshine, make an exquisite picture, the darker greens of the luxuriant bush in the background serving to enhance the other charming effects. The whole forms a delightful characteristic bit of New Zealand scenery of the Sylvan type, and Wellingtonians are exceedingly fortunate in possessing so pretty a country resort, almost at their own doors.
