AUSTRALASIAN CONVENTION OF Y.W.C.A.

A T the National Convention of the _ Young Women's Christian Associations of Australasia, which was held this year at Melbourne, there was a large attendance of delegates from all parts of Australasia. The Auckland Y.W.C.A. was represented by its President, Mrs. G. H. Wilson, who was accompanied by Mesdames Whitney, Dove, Snowden, McGuinness, Lawson, and the secretaries, Misses Griffin and Fisher. The business on the agenda paper covered a large field, and included such subjects as Health, Recreation, Girls' Industrial and Religious Work, Housing, Immigration, World Fellowship—the Association's obligations to foreign countries —and the Constitution and Finance of the Y.W.C.A., which is fortunate in having for treasurer Sir Dennison Millar, Chairman of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Among the chief leaders and speakers in this great movement on behalf of the girls was Her Excellency Lady Forster, wife of the Governor-Gen-eral of Australia, who presided at one of the meetings, and revealed a breadth of vision and an understanding of women's needs that astonished many of her hearers, while the grace and charm of her personality won all hearts. Lady Stradbroke, wife of the Governor of Victoria, was present on the same occasion, and her address of welcome to the delegates was marked by a sincerity that was very convincing. Melbourne people vied with each other in showing hospitality to their visitors. Lady Forster gave a Garden Party for them at the Federal Government House. The Vice-Presi-dent of the Victoria League gave an "At Home," and Mrs. Robert Harper gave another at the Alexandra Club. The Association's Club girls arranged one, and there were several others, which were much appreciated owing to the opportunities afforded for interchange of views and opinions.
