One cannot open the American Journal of Nursing without being struck by the wonderful organisation of nurses in the United States, and comparing it, to our disadvantage, with the conditions prevailing in Great Britain. American nurses are banded in a great society, working all together for the things they need — and not for themselves only, but for others. Club and sick funds are run by nurses for nurses ; post-graduate
courses are arranged ; and great public questions are discussed. We learn that nurses have taken an active part in the war against tuberculosis ; in women's clubs, conditions of women's and children's labour, pure food, school hygiene, and so on. One may hope that in the near future we may all unite in this country to sweep away the obstacles in the path of nursing reform. — From The Nursing Times.
