Stolen.
Stolen from St. Leonards Station, on the 25th September, 1872, an open faced silver lever watch, the square and compasses engraved on the back, and W Perry scratched on the inside of back plate, short stee chain, with key attached— iwo men, who are suspected, stayed at the station the night of the robbery, leaving next morning for Horsley Downs. Station, trom whence they went away, saying they were going to Wilson’s Station, Ashburton. One was an Englishman, about sft. 7in., about 45 years, dark whiskers and moustache turning grey, dressed in light tweed coat and trousers, light billycock hat, and had a black eye; the other was a Scotchman, about 26 years, sft. 6in., dark whiskers, little moustache, had on a light tweed jacket, tight trousers, billycock hat, looked like a jockey, had a blue blanket swag.
Stolen from the rear of an unoccupied house, the property of Mr. Wheeler, Timaru, between the 6th and 10th October, 1872, about eleven feet of 2in. lead piping; value, 275. 6d. The piping had a reddish crust upon it, caused by the water passing through it—not identifiable.
Stolen from the Ladies’ Waiting-room at the Lyttelton Bailway Station, on the 10th October, 1872, a dark blue waterproof cloak, no cape, dark bone buttons, vandyke and scollop trimming on cuffs and around bottom of cloak, also down the front, no lining.
Stolen from the Eailway Goods Sheds, Christchurch, between the hours of 2 p.m. 16th, and 12 noon 19th October, 1872, one dozen of men’s Jean shirts and half-a-dozen of boys’ Crimean mixed pattern ditto—not identifiable. The above were abstracted from a case the property of Messrs. Twentyman and Co.
George Waters is charged on warrant, filed in Commissioner’s Office, with having committed sodomy at Kaiapoi. Description English, shopman, about 25 years, sft. sin., medium build, fair complexion, fair hair, little hair on face, thin pale face, dressed in dark clothes. Is supposed to have gone away in the ship Napier for Newcastle, N.S.W. A young man answering his description shipped in the Napier just before sailing on the 15th October, 1872, and gave his name as “ Lock.”
George Duckmanton Cutts, better known as George Duckmanton, is charged on warrant, filed in Commissioner’s Office, with deserting his wife and family. Native of Derby, England, a wheelwright by trade, 28 years, sft. or 4in., thin build, fair complexion, brown hair, moustache, and goatee, long thin face, arms and legs proportionate, active gait. Offender went to Melbourne some time since, and would probably seek employment in some coach factory.
James Buchanan is charged on warrant, filed in Commissioner’s Office, with deserting his wife and family. Scotchman, 42 years, sft. 6 or 7in., fair complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, light brown whiskers and moustache, latter rather small, high forehead, medium build,* rather long face, JB on one of his arms, generally dresses in light clothes. Offender supposed to be horsebreaking on Bathurst Plains, New South Wales.
Bernhard August Ludwig Schreiber is charged on warrant with fraudulent insolvenev in Germany. Extraditional warrant is in "the hands of the German Consul at Dunedin. Offender came out to Dunedin in the James Nichol Fleming, passenger ship, about the 17th August last, and left by steamer for Lyttelton about a week afterwards, and is supposed to have gone northwards endeavouring to reach San Francisco or Melbourne. Description : —A German, 38 years, sft. 2in., strong thickset build, light brown hair, low broad forehead, large grey eyes, broad nose and mouth, light brown moustache, no beard or whiskers, small wart on side of nose, flat feet.
