Miscellaneous Information.
A waeeant has been issued by the Bench at Christchurch, on the 29th September, 1868, for the apprehension of William George Brown, for wife desertion. Description—-An Irishman, about twenty-nine years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair, small fair whiskers, beard, and
moustache, thin features, dark blue eyes; dressed in monkey jacket, white moleskin trousers, and bluestriped shirt.
At three p.m. on the 29th September, 1868, the woman described as under purchased at the store of Richard Atkinson, Whately road, Christchurch, goods to the value of eleven shillings and sixpence, for which she paid by a cheque for £6, purporting to be drawn by J. T. Peacock and Co. on the Bank of Australasia. On tendering the cheque at the bank, it was pronounced a forgery. Description—About twenty-six years of age, thin, genteel appearance, middle height, pale-faced, dark hair, dressed in snuffcoloured dress, long black silk or velvet cloak, and small new-fashioned bonnet; wears a large chignon.

At the Government House at Wellington, this thirtieth day of September, 1868. Present — His Excellency the Governor in Council.
Whereas, by the Petty Sessions Act, 1865, it is enacted that the Governor from time to time, by order in Council, whereof notice shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette , may constitute and define districts within and for which the said courts respectively shall be held, and such districts, or any of them, may from time to time, in manner aforesaid, abolish, and the boundaries thereof may define and alter— Now, therefore, his Excellency the Governor, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in him vested for this purpose, doth hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, constitute and define the districts following to be the districts within and for which Courts ot Petty Sessions shall be held for the purposes of the said Act, that is to say —
Province of Canterbury
Ellesmere District,
This district comprises all that area bounded on the north-east by the River Selwyn, towards the east by Lake Ellesmere, towards the south by the ocean, towards the south-west by the north bank of the Rakaia river, and towards the north-west by the Great South Road.
Ashburton District,
This district comprises all that area bounded towards the north east by the north bank of t e River Rakaia, from its source to its mouth ; towards the south-east by the ocean ; towards the south-wes by the Rangitata River, from its mouth to its confluence with the Clyde river, thence by that river o its source, and then by a straight line to the summi of Mount Tyndall ; and towards the north-west by the summit of the main range of the Southern A ps to the commencing point.
