described who purchased goods to the amount of £1 12s ’and received the balance. He is about thirty years of age, 5 feet,7or 8 inches h.gh, dark hair; wore a dark coat, had a red-colored muffler around his chin.
About the 16th inst., a forged cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, for £5, purporting to be signed by J. G. Hawley, dated sth October, 1863, m favour of Mr. Cummins, was uttered to Mr. Elman, for goods purchased from Mr. Mein, butcher Christchurch. Mr. Elman can give no description of the person irom whom he got the cheque. —20th October, 1863.
