No. 12. TUESDAY, AUGUST 12th, 1856. House in Committee of Supply. Next Meeting of General Assembly—Consideration of his Excellency's Message No. 46. 1. Question proposed, That this Committee recommends the House to address his Excellency informing him in answer to his Excellency's Message No. 46, that, having regard to the present state of the finances of the Colony, the House does not feel authorised to grant any sum of money for the service mentioned in the Message, as a Select Committee of the House has reported that a sum of at least £2,50Q will be required for the purpose. (Mr. Merriman.) Amendment proposed, That the question be amended by the omission of all the words after the first word " That," with a view of inserting the following in lieu thereof —" this House having pledged itself to make the arrangements necessary to enable the next meeting of the Assembly to be held at Wellington, and as the expense of such arrangements will not have to be met during the present financial year, it is not necessary in the opinion of this House to place any sum for this purpose on the Estimates this session.
