No. 34.—Petition of H. Schmidt, of 187 Symonds Street, Auckland Praying for the restoration of his pharmacy licence. I have the honour to report that provision exists whereby the petitioner may apply for a licence, and, as he has not exercised his rights in this direction, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 21st August, 1947. No. 33.—Petition of New Zealand Sounds Hydro-electric Coni tssions, Limited, Wellington. No. 57. —Petition of A. W. Jones and 39 others, of Southland Praying for the renewal of licences previously held by the New Zealand Sounds Hydroelectric Concessions, Limited, relating to development of hydro-electric power in the Lake Manapouri area. I have the honour to report that the Industries and Commerce Committee has carefully considered these petitions, and has no recommendation to make regarding the subject-matter thereof. The Committee recommends for most favourable consideration the possibility of developing at an early date the immense power resources in the Te Anau and Manapouri area. 12th September, 1947. A Resolution of the Industries and Commerce Committee I have the honour to report that the Industries and Commerce Committee has passed the following resolution : " That the proceedings of the Committee during the taking of evidence on the Control of Prices Bill be open to accredited representatives of the press." Control of Prices Bill I have the honour to report that the Industries and Commerce Committee has carefully considered the Control of Prices Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown on the copy of the Bill hereto attached. 7th November, 1947. No. 75.—Petition of L. C. Walker, of Christchurch Praying that he be heard by a Committee of the House in connection with his proposal that malted milk be manufactured for export. I have the honour to report that the Industries and Commerce Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. However, the petitioner raised in the minds of the Committee the belief that the utilization of by-products of the dairy industry, either alone or in conjunction with grains, might be of considerable benefit to the Empire, and the Committee is of the opinion that further research into this matter merits the careful attention of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
