MENTAL HOSPITALS DEPARTMENT

(а) To provide for additional staff and return to duty of men released from military service. £532,780 provided on main estimates. (б) Visit of Director-General to secure medical staff from overseas. (c) To enable group herd-testing to be carried out at all institutions. £20,500 provided on main estimates. (d) Transfer of patients to Kingseat to relieve overcrowding necessitates extra expenditure. £4,000 provided on main estimates. (e) Half salary of Neuro-Pathologist and Technician at new department of neuro-pathology. (/(Since the main estimates wore prepared, additional vehicles have broken down and require replacement. £3,000 provided on main estimates. (g) Increase in price of nursing staff uniforms and change in method of payment for nurses' footwear necessitates an increase. £3,100 provided on main estimates. (,h) Increased detail work in our main offices makes the provision of adding-machines essential. (i) As tho staffing position improves it is hoped to make increased provision for patients' recreation. £7,200 provided on main estimates. (.j) Telephones are to be installed in nurses' homes at several institutions. £2,700 provided on main estimates. (k) To provide extra equipment for training of nursing staffs. £4,000 provided on main estimates.
