Laid on the Table of the Home of Representatives ORDERS OF REFERENCE Extracts /ram the Journals of the Home of Representatives WEDNESDAY, THJS 18'i'H DAY OF JULY, 1945 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Mr. P. Carr, Mr. Connolly, Mr. Harker, Mr. Macdonald, Mr. Macfarlane, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Roy, Mr. Sim, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Jones.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of .1044 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session." —(Hon. Mr.. Nash.)

REPORTS No. 85.—Petition of P. 11. Keyes, of Feilding Praying for £5,000 in recognition of his services in supplying ideas and inventions to the Inventions Board and other authorities. I am directed to report that the Committee lias no recommendation to make. 30th August, 1945.

No. 73.—Petition of Ellen I, Nicholson, of 22 Emerson Street, Wellington Praying for a war widow's pension, or other relief. I am directed to report that in respect of that portion of the prayer of the petition praying for a war widow's pension the Committee has no recommendation to make, but that in respect to that portion of the petition praying for " other relief" the petition be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. The Committee is of opinion that a sum should be paid to petitioner equal to the difference between the war disability pension of 255. per week plus the economic! pension of 30s. per week granted to petitioner's husband as from the 13th June, 1942, and the 20s. per week granted to petitioner from the same date, amounting to a total of 755. per week, and the total weekly amount which would have accrued to petitioner and her late husband at the rate of pay and allowances as a member of the R.N.Z.A.F. up to the date of the death of petitioner's husband and three months later, had deceased not been discharged from that Service on the 12th June, 1942. 10th October, 1945.

No. 75.—Petition of B. Howard, of New Plymouth Praying that he be granted an increase in his war pension on account of alleged total disability. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. ISth October, 1945.
