ORDERS OF REFERENCE Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives Wednesday, the 18th Day of July, 1945 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting ,of ten members, to consider all matters relating to school-teachers, education, and public instruction generally, training of public-school teachers, higher education, technical education, manual instruction, and such other matters affecting education as may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Algie, Mr. Atmore, Mr. Bodkin, the Kev. Clyde Carr, Mi'. Combs, Mr. Doidge, Mr. McCombs, Mr. Oram, Mr. Petrie, and the Mover."— (Hon. Mr. Mason.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1944 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Hon. Mr. Nasti.) Wednesday, the 14th Day of November, 1945 Ordered, " That the New Zealand Council for Educational Research Bill be referred to the Education Committee."—(Hon. Mr. Mason.)
REPORTS No. 118/1944. —Petition of J. E. Lowe, of Kaikohc, North Auckland Praying for compensation on account of a disability allegedly contracted while in the employ of the Education Department. I am directed to report (hat in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. That in the opinion of the Committee the Government should introduce regulations providing as follows:— (1) All teachers, nurses, and dental nurses appointed to Maori schools should, before entering upon employment, be medically examined and x-rayed. (2) That during the course of such employment should also be weighed, and, if necessary, x-rayed at intervals of one month. (3) Instructions in writing be issued to all such teachers and nurses as to the precautions necessary to safeguard them front infection, and to advance the health of pupils. Bth August, 1945. No. 14. —Petition of W. H. Gould, of Victoria University, Wellington Praying for the restitution of superannuation rights. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration, 12th September, 1945,
