LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS ACCOUNT

(a) £50,000 provided on main estimates. Since estimates were submitted, one largo purchase of nearly £40,000 for rehabilitation purposes was made, while others may be necessary for a similar purpose. (b) Under the Department's new building organization, it is anticipated that it will be necessary to make advances for the purchase of the necessary tools-in-trade for some Maoris learning the carpentry trade on the Department's jobs. The advances will be recovered.
