Statement of Live-stock depastured on Stations at 30th June, 1936.

Sir,— We report that we have completed the audit of the accounts of the East Coast Native Trust Lands for the twelve months ended 30th June, 1936, and attach hereto a set of the foregoing accounts. We have the following comments to make :— Freehold Property.—We have not inspected the title deeds relative to the properties of the Trust, but have accepted certificates from the Public Trustee and the solicitors to the Trust that they are holding same on behalf of the East Coast Commissioner. The certificates do not contain any reference to the section recently purchased in Gisborne on which the new office building is being erected, and we have not verified the title in respect of this property. Stock Account. —We have accepted the numbers and value of the live-stock, on the stations as at 30th June, 1936, as certified to by the farm-managers and Mr. H. Syrnes, the Farms Superintendent. Wool. —With the exception of the Waimaha Farm, all wool on hand at the 30th June, 1936, was realized before the accounts were completed and has accordingly been brought into the accounts at the realized value. Wool unrealized from Waimaha Farm has been valued at £10 per bale. Pohaturoa Posts Suspense, £1,051 19s. 9(1. —This represents the amount expended in connection with the formation of a road through the Pohaturoa property, and also the cost of making posts from an area of bush to which this road has given access. We understand that the posts are now being used on the stations, and the amount to be charged to the stations in the nature of royalties will be set off against this account. Distributions-. —In cases where payments have been made to Natives during the year under review through the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board we have accepted the Board's receipt for the moneys paid to them, but have not checked the individual receipts from the Natives concerned. The same procedure has been adopted as in previous years, and the individual receipts of the Natives will be checked by the Government Auditors in the course of their audit of the Tairawhiti .District Maori Land Board. The following distributions have been made during the year under review : — £ s. d.
