The following is a summary of expenditure and receipts compiled from the schedules attached to this statement: —

Receipts for the Opape Base Farm are not shown. These and maintenance charges are kept in a Trading Account, from which the surplus or deficiency is transferred to the Capital Account. The expenditure on the Te Kaha (proper) included £1,136 for the water-supply scheme. The cost of 2,650 sheep shown as depasturing on the Orete 2 Block did not come to charge within the period of the accounts. Included in the receipts are collections from cream cheques amounting to £5,170, which with £784 from the same source in the Trading Account of Opape Base Farm give a total of £5,954. « D."—TAIRAWHITI MAORI LAND DISTRICT. The schemes in this district may be conveniently divided into two groups—(1) Northern, being those situated in the Waiapu and Matakaoa Counties, and (2) Southern, those situated in the Wairoa County. 1. Northern Group.

The expenditure and receipts on schemes in this group to the 31st March, 1933, were as follows : —

The receipts included unemployment subsidies, £3,339 ; proceeds of sales of live-stock, wool, and mutton, £6,489 ; cream collections, £194 ; and other items, £487. The lands comprised in the Poroporo and Tuparoa Development Schemes were the last south of the Waiapu River to be invested with titles under the Tuparoa and Waiapu Consolidation Schemes, which accounts for the delay in their development and settlement until the winter of 1930. Most of the lands comprised in the Waiapu-Matakaoa Scheme were included in the Northern Waiapu Consolidation Scheme, instalments of which have been approved. The extension of this scheme has kept pace with the progress in the settlement of titles. The latter has been delayed to some extent by the curtailment of financial provision for title surveys. (a) Takatahu, —Bush area felled and grassed, 302J acres ; area cleared of scrub and grassed, 70 acres ; former clearing in pasture, about 35 acres : total in grass, 407J acres. Fencing (new), 421 chains. One four-roomed cottage. Land stocked with heavy cattle, then sheep and dairy heifers from Taranaki which were distributed to other schemes. Intended to be used as a base farm for the present, with a dairy herd of good-quality cattle. Cost to 31st March, 1933, inclusive of £282 for stock, about £5 10s. an acre. The stock comprised 460 ewes and 15 rams : total, 475 ; and sixty-two head of mixed station cattle.
