PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE (REPORTS OF THE). (Mr. C. H. CLINKARD, Chairman.)

ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 23rd Day of July, 1930. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters relating to public health, infectious diseases, contagious diseases, hospitals, and to local authorities having charge of these matters, and to such other matters affecting public health as may be referred to it; to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Clinkard, Mr. Endean, Mr. Hawke, Mr. Healy, Mr. Makitanara, Mr. Munro, Mr. Parry, Mr. Sykes, Mr. Young, and the mover."—(Hon. Mr. Stallwokthy.) Tuesday, the 29th Day or July, 1930. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1929 be again referred to the same Committees that they were referred to during the said session." —(Hon. Mr. Fokbes.) Tuesday, the sth Day oe August, 1930. Ordered, " That the Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill be referred to the Public Health Committee." —(Hon. Mr. Stallwokthy.) Saturday, the 15th Day of August, 1930. Ordered, " That the petition of Neil McLean be referred direct to the Public Health Committee."—(Mr. Macmillan.)

REPORTS.

Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee, to which was referred the above Bill, has carefully considered the same, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed, with the amendments shown in the copy of the Bill hereto attached. 9th September, 1930.

No. 72.—Petition of New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association (Manawatu Branch) (and 14 similar Petitions, as per Schedule attached). Praying that the petitioners be heard before proposals for making private hospitals training-schools for nurses be given effect to. I have the honour to report that the petitioners have been heard and the matters referred to by them have been dealt with in the Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill now before the House, and the Committee therefore has no recommendation to make. 9th September, 1930.
