No. 280/1926. —Petition of Harete' Apatari and 2 Others. Petitioners allege that the persons named in the title to Tutu-o-te-Kaha No. 4 Block are merely trustees. They pray that the Native Land Court may be empowered to determine who the real owners are. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 14th October, 1927. Praying that no further extensions be given to the Tongariro Timber Co., Ltd., and that power be given to the Natives to recover their lands with a view to incorporation of owners to ensure proper use of same. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, with a recommendation that no extension be granted after the end of March, 1928, of the term within which the" company may make financial arrangements for the construction of a railway. 14th October, 1927.
