No. 259.—Petition of J. F. C. Hiddleston, of Lyall Bay. Praying that an inquiry be directed into the circumstances leading up to his resignation from the headmastership of the Takaka District High School. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 6th September, 1926.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the ability and tact displayed by the Chairman, Mr. R. P. Hudson, in the conduct of the business of the Committee during the session ; and further desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Committee desires to record its appreciation of the efficient manner in which the Clerk of the Education Committee, Mr. H. Thomas, has carried out his duties during the session; and further desires that this resolution be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. 6th September, 1926.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee, consisting of ten members, has held nine meetings during the session, and that the average attendance has been seven per meeting. The Committee had referred to it the New Zealand University Amendment Bill and the Education Amendment Bill, which were duly considered and reported upon. Twenty-one petitions were also referred to the Committee, which were disposed of as follows : Favourable consideration, 9 ; consideration, 4; no recommendation, 8. 6th September, 1926.
