I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that petitioner be paid back pay for the period between the date of the decision of the Appeal Board that he should be reinstated and the date of actual reinstatement by the Railway Department. 4th November, 1910.

No. 633.— Petition of Alice Robinson, of 374 Worcester Street, Linwood, Christchurch. Petitioner prays that a compassionate allowance may be granted to her husband for injury received at Blith's railway-crossing I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition 4th November, 1910. No. 731.—Petition of H. M. Clinton and 291 Others, of Orari. Petitioners pray that the 8 a.m. express train, Christchurch to Dunedin, and the 1115 a.m. train, Dunedin to Christchurch, may stop at Orari. I am directed to report that, as the Railway Department have recently arranged that the 8 a.m. train going south will stop at Orari to set down passengers from north of Ashburton, and the train coming north will likewise stop at Orari to set down passengers from south of Timaru, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 17th November, 1910. No. 716.—Petition of Jacques MARrett, of Wellington. Petitioner prays for compensation for injuries sustained through being run over by railwaytrucks at Westport. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 28th November, 1910. No. 428.—Petition of James Jenkins, of Wanganui Petitioner prays for recognition of length of service in Railway Department. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th November, 1910. Petitioners pray for relief in respect of maintenance of Manawatu Railway fences. No. 725.—Petition of Margaret J Melson, of Woolston, Canterbury Petitioner prays for compensation on account of the death of her husband, who was killed on the Lyttelton-Christchurch Railway line. I am directed to report that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. '28th November, 1910. Special Report The Railways Committee has the honour to report that at the final meeting of the Committee held on the 29th November, 1910, the following resolution was passed unanimously : "That this Committee desires to record its high appreciation of the zeal, courtesy, and tact displayed by the Chairman, Mr J T Hogan, in dealing with the large volume of business which came before it during the session; also that the best thanks of the Committee be tendered to the Clerk, Mr N. Jacobs, for the able and businesslike manner in which he has carried out his duties ■ and that this resolution be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and reported to the House " ' 30th November, 1910.
