No. 311.—Petition of James Spoor, of Lyttelton. Petitioner prays for compensation on account of services rendered during the Maori war. I am directed to report that, in view of the fact that the Government is going to authorise Magistrates or other Commissioners during the recess to inquire into the claims of old soldiers, this Committee recommends that inquiry be made into the petitioner's claim by the Commission. 13th December, 1909. No. 136.—Petition of James Methers and Another, of Port Chalmers. Petitioners pray for compensation for the loss of their son, who was drowned whilst proceeding to a Volunteer camp. I am directed to report that this petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 13th December, 1909. Nos. 35, 266, 377, and 447. —Petitions of William Stewart and Others, A. G. MacKenzie and Others, William Simpson and Others, and George T. Clendon and Others, all residents of Hokianga County. Petitioners pray that an extension of the Whangarei—Kawakawa Railway to Kaikohe be included in this year's Authorisation Bill. I am directed to report that these petitions should be referred to the Government for consideration. 13th December, 1909. No. 441.—Petition of H. H. M. McCallum and Others, all of Te Awamutu, Auckland. Petitioners pray that the erection of the bridge over the Puniu River near Te Awamutu be proceeded with. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make, as the Government has the matter in hand. 13th December, 1909. No. 186.—Petition of Albert Pi.ummeh, of 102 Symonds Street, Auckland. PETITIONER prays that he should be allowed compensation for loss on contract to supply rations to Maori prisoners deported to the Chatham Islands. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1909. Nos. 191 and 192.—Petitions of C. P. Murray-Aynsley and Others, and Thomas Lewis and Others. Petitioners pray for an amendment of " The Licensing Act, 1908." I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 16th December, 1909. No. 544. —Petition of Mrs. Helen Maclntyre, of Wellington. Petitioner prays for compassionate allowance on account of her late husband's services as a Civil servant. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petiiton should be referred lo the Government for consideration. 16th December, 1909. No. 442.—Petition of Murray, Roberts, and Co., of Wellington. Petitioners pray for refund of fine in connection with unpaid stamp duly. I am directed to report that in the opinion of this Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 16th December, 1909. No. 139.—Petition of Charles Wood, of 9 Tweed Street, Dunedin. Petitioner prays for compensation for loss of office. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. Kith December, 1909. No. 367.—Petition of G. D. MacFari.ane, of 97 Lichfield Street, Christchurch. Petitioner prays for refund of duty on certain cases of fruit. I am directed to report that in the opinion of this Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 16th December, 1909.
