(6.) The absolute or contingent rights to compensation for loss of office when the Act comes into operation (if any) are also preserved until a corresponding amount of pension has been drawn. Note.—The pensions are payable monthly, and are computed on the salary at retirement, unless there has been promotion within five years, when the average salary for the last seven years is taken as the basis. *
