The Mungaroa Stream has a drainage-area of twenty-two square miles above the swamp behind Wallaceville. The area of the swamp is 2*2 square miles. The fall from the centre of the swamp to Wallaceville is given as over 260 ft., and the distance about a mile. The lower end of the swamp can be closed by a dam, and a lakelet formed, but the dam would be over three-quarters of a mile long and the cost too great to warrant consideration of the scheme at the present time. The cost would probably be about £70 per brake horse-power. At some future time the Mungaroa may be used with profit for some local industry using water-power direct. Minoe Schemes, Noeth Island. Some of these streams would yield small amounts of power in many cases by cutting a race for some distance. Good schemes for merely local use could be got as required. A complete examination of all and the collection of data regarding them would involve a considerable amount of work. Hardly any would likely be large enough for a transmission scheme.
