1902. NEW ZEALAND.

INCOME-TAX PAID DURING 1900-1901 BY RESIDENTS IN NORTH AND SOUTH ISLANDS.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated ,18th September, 1901. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a Return showing, separately, the total amount of incomt-tax paid for the year ended 31st March, 1901, by residents in the North and South Islands of New Zealand."— (Mr. FowfcDS.) .

The above order has been complied with as far as possible. There are, however, payments of income-tax which it is impossible to credit to either the North or to the South Island. The businesses from which such payments are received embrace every part of the colony. The income-tax revenue of the year ending 31st March, 1901, has therefore been divided under three heads, as follows :— £ s. d.
