Note.—Of those summarily convicted, 2,493 men and 364 women were dismissed with cautions, without being sentenced to imprisonment, fine, or other punishment; 35 men and 3 women were released under " The First Offenders' Probation Act, 1886," and 6 men received compound punishments. The number of offences (included in the table) charged against persons of the Native race was 636: o f the persons so charged, 450 were summarily convicted, 28 committed for trial, and 158 dismissed.
