Note.— Oi those summarily convicted, 2,806 men and 364 women were dismissed with cautions, without being sentenced to imprisonment, fine, or other punishment; and 48 men and 10 women were released under " The First Offenders' Probation Act, 1886." The number of offences (included in the table) charged against persons of the Native race was 421: of the persons so charged, 300 were summarily convicted, 29 committed for trial, and 92 dismissed.
