1901. NEW ZEALAND.

STUD ANIMALS IMPORTED BY THE GOVERNMENT (PARTICULARS RELATIVE TO).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 18th September, 1901. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing the total cost to the oolony of the stud animals recently imported from Britain by the Department of Agriculture; and also giving the price paid for each animal, the pedigree of each animal, and the name and address of the breeder or the former owner of each."—(Mr. Massky.)

Eetuen of the Cost of Stud Animals impobted from Beitain by the Department of Agriculture. (1.) Total cost of the animals to the colony : £4,407 12s. 9d. (2.) Price of each animal: — (a.) Horses.— Thoroughbreds: Singlestick 11., £350; Tyranny, £200; Serapion, £300; Malachi, £200 ; Amasis, £150 ; Lupin, £225. Shires : Danger Signal and Hertfordshire Boy, presented by Lord Eothschild. (b.) Cattle.— Shorthorn bulls : Bed Lord XXVIL, £52 10s.; Tugela, £105; Clarence Duke, £43 Is.; Imperial Yeoman, £73 10s.; Captain Middleton, £52 10s.; Plato, £36 15s. Shorthorn cows : Musical, £42 ; Delight, £45. Shorthorn heifers : Highway Lass, £31 10s. ; Magic, £31 10s. Shorthorn bull: Langford Wallace, £70. Ayrshire bulls : Holdfast of Nethercraig, £50 ; Earl of Drumdow, £50. Shorthorn bull " Salisbury " died on voyage; cost of purchase was £52 10s. The costs were covered by insurance, so will be refunded. (3.) Pedigree of animals, giving name and address of breeder or owner: — Singlestick 11. (1898), (Chestnut Horse).
