CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD: RETURN SHOWING EXPENDITURE INCURRED, ETC.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 10th August, 1900. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing for each year from 1890 to 1899 inclusive, — (1) The expenditure inourred by the Christchuroh Drainage Board within the City of Christchurch and the suburban or rural districts respectively ; (2) the amount of rates colleoted in the said city and suburban or rural districts ; (3) the present boundaries of the several suburban or rural districts; (4) the total amount of sinking fund acorued; (5) the amount of such sinking fund provided by the said city and the suburban or rural districts respectively ; (6) the total amount of loan-moneys borrowed by the said Board expended on permanent drainage-works in the said oity and each suburban or rural distriot." —(Mr. G. Sik, — Christchurch Drainage Board, Christchurch, 20th August, 1900. In reply to your letter of 13th instant (No. 1019) enclosing a copy of an order of the House of Bepresentatives asking for certain returns, I have now the honour to forward same herewith. There never has been a separate account for the City of Christchurch, which is included in the sewage area. This area contains the city proper and immediate suburbs, being portions of the Boroughs of Sydenham, St. Albans, Linwood, and of the Biccarton and Spreydon Boad Board Districts. The rural area accounts are kept separately for portion of the Borough of Sydenham, as " Bural Sydenham " ; portions of the Boroughs of St. Albans and New Brighton and Avon Boad Board District, as " Bural Avon " ; portions of the Borough of Linwood, the Borough of Woolston, and the Heathcote Boad Board District, as "Bural Heathcote"; portions of the Boad Board Districts of Biccarton and Spreydon, as " Bural Biccarton " and " Bural Spreydon " respectively. The boundaries of districts will be found in the First Schedule of "The Christchurch District Drainage Act, 1875," and schedule to " The Christchurch District Drainage Act 1875 Amendment Act, 1880." Beturns are enclosed as under :— 1. Expenditure incurred in sewage and rural areas. 2. Bates collected in same. 3. Amount of sinking fund accrued to 31st December, 1899. 4.
