From these figures it is easily seen on what scale beet-sugar manufacture is likely to begin to bo a payable industry in Victoria. In placing the foregoing facts, and deductions made therefrom, in the hands of honourable members of both Houses of Parliament, the undersigned Minister of Agriculture has been desirous of furnishing them with the best and most competent information on the large subject available. The beet-sugar question in this colony is a very important one, and sooner or later it will have to be dealt with by the Legislature, in order to devise means for its promotion or otherwise. Whatever may be decided by Parliament, I have considered it my public duty to submit the foregoing paper at this stage. J. W. Tavkbnbk, Minister of Agriculture. Department of Agriculture, Melbourne, 19th November, 1894. Approximate Coat of Paper.— Preparation, not given ; printing (1,400 copies), £7 18b.
