Annual Eeport of the Midland Eailwat. Sib, — Locomotive Superintendent's Office, Wellington, 2nd August, 1897. I have the honour to report upon the Midland Eailway for the year ending the 31st March, 1897. Locomotives. —The whole of the locomotives have been maintained in fair running order. The boilers are clean and in good order. Carriages. —The carriages are in fair running order. Wagons. —The wagons are in fair order. Buildings. —All in good order. Tanks, Coal-sheds, do. —All in good order. The want of appliances at Stillwater renders it more economical to effect any repairs at Greymouth. To do this effectually, and transfer the whole locomotive staff, will necessitate some additions to the Greymouth sheds and shops. In the interests of economy this should be done as early as possible. I have, &c, T. F. Rotheram, The General Manager, New Zealand Eailways, Wellington. Locomotive Superintendent.
