THE RIVERSDALE-SWITZERS RAILWAY (RETURN SHOWING HOW £20,000 VOTED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF) HAS BEEN EXPENDED.
Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 18th June, 1891. Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House showing the manner in which the sum of £20,000 voted for the construction of the Eiversdale-Switzers Eailway, and stated by the Minister for Public Works to be exhausted, has been expended, and to whom the payments have been made."—(Mr. T. No sum of £20,000 has ever been voted for the Biversdale-Switzers Eailway, and no sum whatever was voted for that line during either of the last two financial years (1889-90 and 1890-91). An amount of £20,000 was allocated to the line in the Schedule to " The New Zealand Loan Act, 1886," of which amount £5,000 was voted in 1886-87, £3,000 in 1887-88, and £250 in 1888-89. The expenditure during each of the three years referred to being £354, £986, and £44 respectively. For further particulars asked for, see detailed return annexed. H. J. H.
