SALE OF ENDOWMENTS FOR AKAROA AND LITTLE RIVER RAILWAY (RETURN SHOWING PARTICULARS OF).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 30th January, 1891. Ordered, "That a return be laid before this House showing the total area and situation of land which was set apart as an endowment for the Akaroa-Lifctle River Railway ; how much of such land has been sold or leased on the perpetual-lease system, giving the date of sale, the area of land and price obtained for each lot, the names of every purchaser or lessee, on whose application, the purpose assigned for such sale, and the authority consenting thereto ;. the total amount realised from such sales and'leases of the land, and how expended."—(Mr. Joyce.)

Land reserved under " The Ellesmere and Forsyth Eeclamation and Akaroa Eailway Trust Act, 1876," 50,000 acres. One-half of the proceeds of the sale of such land to be paid into the Ellesmere and Porsyth Reclamation and Akaroa Eailway Trust Account. Area sold under the above Act, 21,723 acres 3 roods 14 perches, at £2 per acre. Amount paid to Trust Account, £21,723 16s. 9d. Land sold under the provisions of "The Eailways Construction Act, 1878," the whole of the proceeds of which are carried to .the credit of the Trust, 23,434 acres 2 roods 1 perch, at £2 per acre: £46,869 os. 3d. "The Eailways Construction Act, 1878," also provides that an additional area of 72,000 acres be set aside as a further endowment, of which 4,926 acres 3 roods 19 perches were sold by auction under the provisions of " The Lake Ellesmere Act, 1888," realising the sum of £15,776 14s. Bd., and this amount has been paid to Public Account, to credit of Public Works Fund.
