6. Instruction in elementary science, specially adapted to the requirements of the Education Department, and in agricultural science, has been given, by lectures and in the laboratories, to teachers employed by the Board of Education and to others. 7. The Auckland Amateur Opera Club has lately presented to the College Council the sum of 200 guinesas, to be expended, in the years 1890 and 1891, in the support of exhibitions in music, which are to be obtained by competitive examination, and to be conditional on due attendance at the lectures given in the School of Music by the Lecturer in Music and the Professor of Physical Science. 8. The persons who attended term lectures in 1889 were 113 —viz., sixty-two male and fiftyone female. Of these, six were graduates, four male and two female ; forty-eight undergraduates, thirty male and eighteen female; and the non-matriculated students were fifty-nine—viz., twentyeight male and thirty-one female. The undergraduates whose names are on the College books of the year, from attendance at lectures or examinations in the course of the past two years, are ninety-one—viz., sixty-three male and twenty-eight female. 9. Lectures of a more popular character on scientific subjects have been delivered, and have been numerously attended. 10. The degree of M.A. in the University of New Zealand, with honours of the second class, was awarded in 1889 to a student of this College, Mr. Sinclair Gillies, and the degree of B.A. to seven students, of whom three were male and four female. One of those, Mr. T. H. Green, Gillies; Scholar, has obtained a senior scholarship of the University. 11. A statement of the receipts and expenditure for the year 1889 is appended.
