LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES (RETURN SHOWING AMOUNTS PAID TO OR RAISED BY, IN EACH YEAR SINCE ABOLITION OF PROVINCES).
Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated 14th October, 1887. Ordered, " That a return be laid before tins House showing the total amounts paid over to local governing bodies out of the Consolidated and Public Works Funds in each year since the abolition of the provinces; also, the total amounts raised or levied by such local bodies during the same period, such payments to be classified under the following headings: Consolidated Fund —(1) Appropriations to municipalities and Road Boards; (2) Endowments and lands made over; (3) Subsidies from various accounts and under different Acts ; (4) 20 per cent, of Land Revenue, paid up to the year 1881; (5) One-third proceeds of land sold on deferred payments; (6) One-quarter rents of perpetual leases under the Land Act of 1885; (7) Fees, fines, licenses, &0., payable to local bodies; (8) Gold revenue; (9) Gold duty; (10) Payments under Counties' Separate Account; (11) Rates paid for Crown and Native lands; (12) Miscellaneous payments, not admitting of classification. Public Works Fund —(13) Payments to local bodies out of Public Works Fund under Roads and Bridges Construction and Government Loan's to Local Bodies Acts. (14) Total rates raised by local bodies in each year."—(Mr. M. J. S. Mackenzie.)
