Bd., as under the old securities the interest was payable on the 31st December, and under the new on the Ist January£lBB4. The profits of the year 1883 are therefore apparently less by the above sum than the amount earned, and the profits of the year 1884 will be correspondingly increased. t Owing to the large expense attending the initiatory management of the West Coast Settlement Reserves, the expenditure has exceeded the receipts during the year 1883 by £614 7s. 3d., and during the previous period by £222135, 4d., making a deficit up to the present time of £837 os. 7d., which has been met out of the profits of the office.
