No. 491.—Petition of Hoani Taipua and 54 Others. Petitionees pray that Otaki may be declared to be a Native village. They object to the Eoad Board managing their affairs. I am directed to report as follows :—■ That the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 29th August, 1883.

No. 507.—Petition of Te Hemopo Hikabahui and 3 Others. Petitioners ask that restrictions to alienate should be removed from certain of their lands. I am directed to report as follows : — That all questions regarding restrictions should be referred to the Government, the Governor in Council being alone able to deal with them. 30th August, 1883.

No. 229.—Petition of Ihakaea Kahuao and 5 Others. Petitionees complain that, though their names are included as grantees in the Whakamaru Block, they are left out of the reserves. I am directed to report as follows : — That this is a question for the Native Land Court. 3rd September, 1883.

No. 527.—Petition of Webahikb Taheee and Others. Petitionees say that their lands of Whakamaru Mangaiti are being injuriously affected by the action of companies and lawyers. They ask for a subdivision, that they may know their own land. I am directed to report as follows:— This petition came before ..the Committee on the 31sfc August, too late to consider it. Government is recommended to bring it under the notice of the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court. 3rd September,-1883.
